Might be time for a change IT & Tech Careersīeen with my company 20 plus years.I have removed all In-Place Holds from our Exchange Online tenant, so I'm not quite sure why this is the case? I can't find the user with Get-Mailbox, Get-Contact or Get-MailContact, so don't know how I can remove it via Remote PS session either. When I try to delete either of these Mail Users, it tells me:Įrror: Exchange cant remove the mail user because it is on litigation hold. The users show up under the Contacts tab in the Exchange Admin portal, and are listed as Mail User, not Mail Contact (I deleted all of the Mail Contacts without issue). I'm trying to resolve the issues and remove all content from our Exchange Online tenant in preparation for running the migration batch again, but I seem to have 2 users that I can't remove.

We had a migration batch run for Exchange Online, which contained, among others, some failures about SMTP addresses being already in use - I tracked this down to the fact that we had already created cloud accounts for users who had left the business, and imported their PST files into their cloud accounts, before putting them on In-Place Hold and deleting said cloud accounts to free up the licenses.
